The trip from San Diego to Yuma is a quick and easy hop. We left San Diego before the sun was up and started climbing thru rocky hills that lay to the east. Every time we do this route, we wonder if the rocks were deposited in this condition or if eons of rain and wind had removed all the dirt and sand.
The morning hours were overcast, as is normal this time of year along the southern California coast but once over the coastal range the skies cleared and we had plentiful sun thru the desert that extends thru El Centro to Yuma and beyond.
Colorado River water brings life to the desert. We passed mile after mile of irrigated fields covered in Alfalfa and other crops. Yes, that’s a cell phone tower camouflaged as a palm tree.
